The role of glutamine in bodybuilding

Many bodybuilders choose glutamine as the most important supplement. This is an amino acid that can naturally be found in meat, fish, poultry, beans and dairy products. Most protein supplements contain glutamine because it is an amino acid involved in many processes occurring in the body.

The body produces enough glutamine to meet its needs under normal circumstances. However, an additional dose of L-glutamine should be provided to meet the increased need during exercise (training, stress, convalescence).

From the bodybuilder point of view, the strength of glutamine is its ability to reduce muscle micro damage that occurs as a result of intense physical activity.

You need to take care to maintain high levels of glutamine during intense exercise, as the decrease in glutamine levels can cause greater susceptibility to the disease due to weakening of the immune system. In addition to the positive effect on the immune system, glutamine helps the functioning of the liver, stomach and intestines.

The dose of glutamine for bodybuilders is about 20-30 grams a day. For optimum assimilation, it is best to take small doses of glutamine at low intervals. Glutamine is best absorbed in meals or snacks containing carbohydrates that help in absorption. As a nutrient that occurs naturally in the body, glutamine is safe. However, taking excessive amounts of glutamine can cause stomach upset. The safe dose of glutamine is about 0.6 grams per kilogram of body weight.
