Basic knowledge about cholesterol

We hear all the time that cholesterol is bad, and that you should make sure that your cholesterol levels are not too high. However, we do not realize that cholesterol is naturally produced by the body and that it is necessary for the healthy functioning of the body.

As always, the truth lies in the middle. Cholesterol is neither good nor bad – it is one of those substances that are necessary for a healthy life and cholesterol should not be too low or too high.

What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is produced in the liver and is used in the production of sex hormones and adrenal hormones, participates in the production of vitamin D3, helps in the production of bile and is a building block of tissues. Cholesterol can also be supplied externally as part of the meals you eat. The main sources of cholesterol from food are animal products: meat and dairy products.

Good cholesterol versus bad cholesterol

When we examine blood for cholesterol, we get a result broken into two positions: LDL and HDL. Both LDL and HDL are lipoproteins, i.e. compounds consisting of fat and proteins that act as cholesterol carriers in the blood. The greater the amount of these substances means higher levels of cholesterol in the blood. LDLs are low density lipoproteins that are called bad cholesterol. HDL is high density lipoprotein, i.e. good cholesterol.

Too high LDL cholesterol can lead to hardening of the arteries. Too high LDL cholesterol causes the accumulation of harmful deposits on the walls of the arteries. The result is narrowing of blood vessels and problems with oxygen supply to individual body cells, as well as an increased risk of blood clots that can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Bad cholesterol must be kept low.

The function of HDL cholesterol is to maintain health in the cardiovascular system, including the transfer of LDL cholesterol back to the liver, where it is inactivated and removed from the body. Properly high levels of good cholesterol protect against stroke and heart attack. Keep HDL cholesterol at a high level.

The most natural way to maintain the proper level of LDL and HDL cholesterol is a healthy diet and regular physical activity. The use of the LAMININE food supplement can help regulate cholesterol levels and bring additional health benefits.
